Eiffel Peak is a great scramble with an altitude gain of 1230 m and the view to show for it! Starting out at the world famous Moraine Lake take the path around the right side of the lake until you reach the trail head for Larch Valley Trail. Most years there is a limit on the minimum amount of people that can go on the trail due to bears in the area so be sure to contact Parks Canada if you are unsure. When we went we had to be in groups of four or more. After tramping up many switchbacks you eventually reach Larch Valley and you can see the three peaks of the valley. On the left is Eiffel Peak, then Pinnacle Mountain and finally Mount Temple towering above them all.
Continue along the Larch Valley Trail Hike until you see a small fork to the left that leads down to a creek. The creek makes for a nice spot to catch your breath and plan for the next leg. After crossing the creek follow the trail up the ridge until you break through the tree line. Once you have gained the tree line you have a good view of your ascent route to the summit of Eiffel Peak. Continue up the mountain through the scree and boulders until you reach the summit. There are many different routes to the top, and they are all fairly similar in difficulty.
The summit offers spectacular views of Larch Valley, Mount Temple (you can also see the scrambling ascent route well) and the Valley of the Ten Peaks with the end tip Moraine Lake making an appearance. Well worth the effort once at the top for the amazing views.
Return along the same route.
